Allie Ann Smith Cade was the daughter of John W. Smith and Sarah "Sallie" Stephens Smith. She married Dr. Edward W. Cade on 6 July 1858 in Anderson County, Texas. They were the parents of four children, all of whom died in childhood or in early adulthood. Dr. E. W. "Ned" Cade was a Confederate surgeon during the Civil War, and letters that he and Allie wrote back and forth to one another during that time period have been published or referenced in multiple books. He died in 1869, and Allie Ann lived on as a widow for another 32 years. Caldwell News-Chronicle. (Caldwell, Tex.), Vol. 22, No. 8, Ed. 1 Friday, July 19, 1901 Page 9 Death of Mrs. A. A. Cade. Died: Saturday afternoon, July 13, at Belton, Texas, Mrs. A. A. Cade, of Caldwell, aged 62 years. The news of the death of Mrs. Cade was quite a shock to her many friends here, though her health had been very bad for some time. She had only been in Belton for a short time where she was visiting her sister-in-law, Mrs. M. V. Smith, and had intended going to Kansas City for treatment of a tumor, which was the cause of her death. It is supposed that the disease opened an artery, causing an internal hemorrhage, causing her death in a short time. She was buried at North Belton Cemetery Sunday afternoon at 5 o'clock, Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Nelms, of this city, attending the funeral. Mrs. Cade had been a resident of Caldwell for many years, and was a consistent Christian, a member of the Baptist church, and lived a practical Christian life which was an influence for good to all who came in contact with her. Her friends here were legion, every one of whom loved her for her kind and gentle spirit, and patience and resignation in suffering. She was for some years connected with Baylor College and was quite well known throughout the state. She has gone to her rest, confident in a glorious future, after a life which helped to smooth the path of many and the welcome may well be accorded her in the angels' home. "Well done, thou good and faithful servant; enter thou into the joys of thy Lord."
