Were her parents William M. Cates (1832-1894) & Tabitha B. Cates (1837-1895)? Annabel was part of the large group of Cates families who came to Rains County, TX, from Edgefield County, South Carolina about 1880, but I don't know exactly which family. Because Annabel named one of her daughters Tabitha, it is likely that Tabitha Cates was her mother. Annabel married James Warren Beall (1868-1935) of Texas on Dec. 20, 1888, in Hopkins County, TX. Seven children: • Gertha Lee Beall Anderson (1891-1977; Memorial# 61439179) • Nora Tabitha Beall Thompson (1893-1987) • Susie Beall Kinard (1896-1974) • Thelma Beall (1900-after 1910) • Donald Arthur Beall (1902-1962; Memorial# 61646533) • Ewell Clyde Beall (1904-1991) • Roy L. Beall (1907-1907; Memorial# 140298778) Annabel died in childbirth at age 33. I believe Annabel was named for Edgar Allen Poe's poem about a beautiful woman named Annabel Lee, which was published in 1849. "For the moon never beams without bringing me dreams of the beautiful Annabel Lee; And the stars never rise but I feel the bright eyes of the beautiful Annabel Lee; And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side of my darling, my darling, my life and my bride...
