Bio

Virgil Clark Plemmons, of Woodway, passed away Sunday, April 16, 2006. Graveside services will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 19, at Waco Memorial Park with the Rev. Barry Camp officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home. Virgil was born in Flint City, Ala., to the late Hugh and Lela May Plemmons. He married Ruby Ann Tillis on May 14, 1932. Virgil was 34 years old when he first went to combat during the beginning of World War II where he was a Chief Petty Office and SeaBee who was in charge of the Construction Battalion Maintenance Unit. Being older than most his fellow soldiers, he had a feeling of responsibility to the younger soldiers. In July of 2003, he was interviewed by a Tennyson Middle School 7th grader and he told of many events during his service time, some bringing him to close encounters with death. He was a great soldier to those who knew him. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruby Ann, on January 18, 1995; brothers, Pick Plemmons and Austin Plemmons; and his second wife, Elouise, on April 14, 2006. He is survived by his son, John Plemmons; of San Antonio, TX; sister, Mary Alice Clover, of Atlanta, GA.; and many other family members and friends. Waco Tribune-Herald: 4/18/2006...M
