Sylvia E. Philips passed into the arms of her loving Savior, Jesus Christ, early Sunday morning, December 7, 2014. She was 93 at the time of her death and is survived by her sons, Dr. Billy U. Philips, Jr. of Lubbock, Mr. Roy R. Philips of Bastrop, and her daughter, Patricia Nelson of Llano. Sylvia is preceded in death by the love of her life, Maj. Billy U. Philips, Sr. (ret). Left to cherish her memory are eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Sylvia was loved by Jerry Nelson, Susan White, and Donna Philips. Sylvia served the Lord in many capacities and was a member of the Highland Terrace United Methodist Church in San Antonio, she always followed the truth. She was a devoted mother and was active in her community and was especially proud of her service as a member of the "Good Girls" and the Widows Society of Fort Sam Houston. A grave side service is planned for 9:30 a.m. on Friday, December 12, 2014 at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. The family would like to thank Teresa Scoggins and the loving care staff at Promise Land Assisted Living in Lubbock, Texas. Sylvia requested that in lieu of flowers that people help the living by paying it forward to the Glory of God. Arrangements by Alamo Funeral Home, San Antonio.
