Bio

Clifford Elsworth (Bush) Jones, Jr. died December 7, 2014. He was born to Clifford Elsworth Jones and Lillian Nora Gaddis Jones June 28, 1924 in Dallas, Texas. He grew up in Hugo, Oklahoma. He attended Hugo High School and was a letterman in 4 sports each year and class president for all four years. He served with the Oklahoma National Guard and was honorably discharged just prior to the start WWII. After graduation from high school in 1943, he enlisted in the Navy and served for the duration of the war in the Pacific. Upon discharge from the Navy, he continued his education at Texas College of Mines in El Paso, Texas on a football scholarship. He was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Lubbock and Corpus Christi from 1950 until his retirement in 1986. After his retirement, he was employed by Southwest Pay Phones, Inc. in Corpus Christi from 1989 to 1994. Clifford was a member of Southminster Presbyterian Church in Missouri, Texas. He was an ordained Presbyterian Elder. He was a life member of VFW, Nacogdoches Chapter and of the American Legion in Rosenberg. He was a Mason out of the Yellow House Lodge Chapter in Lubbock, Texas; a long time member of the Telephone Pioneers of America; and belonged to Southwest Football Officials Association for 42 years. Upon retirement from officiating he continued as a time keeper for a number of years. In 1946, he married the former Ellene Webb of Hugo, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his wife and parents. He is survived by two sons: Clifford E Jones, III and wife Gale of San Marcos, Texas; Michael Webb Jones and wife Vincenza of Richmond, Texas; Debra Jones Cherry and husband John of Springtown, Texas. He had seven grandchildren: Angela Jones Buentello and husband Richard; Kimberly Jones Ballard and husband Zachary; Allison Jones Guerra and husband Eric; Jeffrey Jones; Melissa Hubbard and husband Michael; Jessica Oakley and husband Derek; Jennifer Cherry Gentzler and husband Bret. There are eleven great-grandchildren: Langston Bennett Buentello; Page Ngit Tau Ballard; Jayden, Jaxon, and Jase Guerra; Melanie Jones and Kayla Flores; Arabella and Bruin Hubbard; Avery and Hunter Oakley. Services will be conducted Saturday on December 13, 2014 at Davis-Greenlawn Memorial Funeral Chapel in Rosenberg, Texas by Pastor Kevin Edelbrock of River Pointe Church, Richmond, Texas.
