Fremont Tribune (NE) - Tuesday, April 13, 2010 Samuel S. Bowman, 76, of Fremont died Monday, April 12, 2010, at his home. He was born Sept. 1, 1933, in Miller, S.D. He and his family moved to northern Minnesota at an early age and then to Fremont in the mid 1940s. He lived in western Nebraska for a time, and then returned to Fremont. He started driving truck shortly after he turned 16 in the early fall of 1949. Sam started with Little Audrey's in 1954. In 1965, he purchased his own truck and trailer. He lived in Phoenix from 1965-66 and again returned to Fremont. He ran to Phoenix for over 31 years. In 1989, he got his own authority. He continued to go to Phoenix until ill health sidelined him for a time. He regained his health and continued to drive until 2007. He had been up and down that old road for 58 years and had enjoyed every minute of it. He met a lot of great people and always tried to act in a courteous and professional manner, and was always welcome to come back at every dock. Sam was honored with a 50-year achievement award from the American Truck Historical Society. Sam enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife, Karen; sons, Richard Bowman, Doug (and wife, Patti) Bowman, all of Fremont, and John (and wife, Judy) Twisk of Richfield, Minn.; daughters, DeeAnn (and husband, Roger) Sawyers, Bonny (and husband, Randy) Christiansen, Kathy Bowman and Sally (and husband, Chris) Gerlt, all of Fremont; 14 grandkids, Wyatt and Tanner Bowman, Sam Sawyers, Travis (and wife, Meranda) Christiansen, Doug Christiansen, Jennifer (and husband, Mike) Barker, Calvin Nielsen, Gabby and Duncan Kirchmann, Courtney Gerlt, Alyce and Ian Twisk, Madison and Mason Bowman; three great-grandchildren, Elliott Bowman, Josie and Michaela Barker; a sister, Dorothy (and husband, Duane) Segebartt of Auburn, Wash.; and many nieces and nephews.
