Published in The Carnegie Herald, Carnegie, Caddo Co., OK Wednesday, July 27, 1966 Roswell Services Held Friday For Roy Montgomery Funeral services for Roy E. Montgomery, Roswell, N.M., son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Barney DeLong, Carnegie, were held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Bullard Funeral chapel in Roswell. Rev. Doyle Riley, pastor of the Aldergate Methodist church, officiated. Burial was in Memory Lawn cemetery. Montgomery died Wednesday, July 20, at St. Mary's hospital after an illness of two years. He was born May 31, 1922, to Mr. and Mrs. E.E. Montgomery at Cloud Chief. He was married to Aileen DeLong April 18, 1942, at Cordell. He was a graduate of Cloud Chief high school and attended college at Southwestern State, Weatherford and at Portales, N.M. In 1942 he began work for a construction company in Roswell. He served two years with the Armed Forces in World War II and in November 24, 1944, was awarded the Purple Heart and the Presidential Citation. He was wounded while serving in the Philippines. In 1957 he went into the contracting business for himself and worked until ill health forced his retirement. He was a member of the Carnegie VFW Post while he and his family resided here for about a year. At the time of his death he was a member of the Roswell Post. He also was a member of the Cloud Chief Methodist church. He is survived by his wife, a daughter, Karen Jane and a son, Ted, all of the home; and his mother, Mrs. Myrtle Montgomery of Roswell. He was preceded in death by his father in July, 1964.
