Edwin was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lillian. Survivors include son, Edwin Louis Charanza and wife, Anita, of Temple; brother, Joe F. Charanza; daughters, Linda Yondrey and husband, James, of Bryan, Lillian Mayer and husband, John, of Woodway, Elizabeth Britten and husband, Randy, of Bryan and Jo Rek, of Rockdale. ******************** -- from The Eagle, September 19, 2005 Edwin Louis Charanza Sr. Nov. 6, 1919 - Sept. 16, 2005 CALDWELL - Services for Edwin Louis Charanza Sr., 85, of Caldwell are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Caldwell. Monsignor Emilian Foltyn of Dime Box will officiate. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home by the Rev. Ramon Frayna of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bryan. Mr. Charanza died Friday at Bremond Nursing Center. He was born in the Birch community of Burleson County and worked 46 years in the grocery business, retiring from Broaddus Minimax. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, achieving the rank of corporal. He served in the Medical Detachment 12th Field Artillery Battalion, 2nd Division, as a medic and was awarded the EAME Campaign Medal with five Bronze Stars and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, where he served as an usher, and was a member of VFW Campbell Post No. 4458, the Caldwell American Legion, and the K.J.T. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Charanza. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Edwin Louis and Anita Charanza of Temple; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Linda and James Yendrey and Elizabeth and Randy Britten, all of Bryan, Lillian and John Mayer of Woodway and Jo Rek of Rockdale; a brother, Joe F. Charanza; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
