Bio
Sunny Purl Alderdice of Midlothian, Texas passed away August 26, 2014 in Arlington, Texas. Sunny was born in Dallas to the late State Senator George C. Purl and Mrs. Bernice Blanton on December 21, 1930. She graduated from Midlothian High School in 1948 and married the late Barham Alderdice. Sunny was a charter member of the Ellis County Historical Society, a director of the Midlothian Cemetery Association and a pianist for the Midlothian Presbyterian Church. “Sunny Alderdice Day” was celebrated April 25, 1974 in recognition of her lengthy community service and 20 years of service to the PTA beginning in 1950. Also in 1974 she and Barham purchased The Midlothian Mirror (a weekly newspaper established in 1882),and they owned the paper until his death in 1996. In 1997 Sunny was recognized as Midlothian’s Businesswoman of the Year. Sunny was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother, George C. Purl, Jr. and sister, Patti Purl Crockett. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Alderdice Francis of Austin, sister, Mary Katherine Maddox of Dallas and sister-in-law, Elise Alderdice Yarbro of Fort Worth. The family would like to thank everyone for their kindness during these past few years. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Sunny Alderdice Scholarship Fund (checks payable to Midlothian ISD, 100 Walter Stephenson Rd., Midlothian, TX) or the charity of your choice. Visitation will be held at Midlothian Funeral Home (200 E. Ave. E, Midlothian, TX, 972-723-9884 on Friday, August 29, 2014 from 1:00-1:30 p.m. with funeral services immediately following.
