SARGENT — Emma Smolik, 91, of Sargent died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2014, at Bryan Medical Center in Lincoln. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Sargent. Burial will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery at Sargent. Rhoad Funeral Home in Sargent is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Smolik was born Sept. 6, 1923, on a farm in Round Valley Community in Custer County to Joseph and Anna (Jares) Jezbera. She attended school in Round Valley through the 10th grade. Emma assisted her parents on the farm for many years. On May 12, 1956, she was married to Alvin Smolik in Sargent. They made their home in Sargent and years later moved to a farm northeast of Sargent. Emma loved to play softball in the Round Valley Community. She had great pleasure tending her vegetable garden, farming and working with cattle. She also enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family and friends. Emma was a member of the St. Mary’s Altar Society. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Rosemary and Richard Leibert of Sargent; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Joline Smolik of Sargent; grandsons, Eric (Shanda) Leibert, Aklin (Abbie) Smolik and Logun Smolik; great-grandsons, Ryder and Eric II Leibert and John Smolik; stepgrandchildren, Damian Hill, Shasta Handley and Miab Handley; a sister-in-law, Agnes Monroe of Sargent; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Edward, Willie, Frank, Charles and Louie; and three sisters, Lucy, Bessie and Rosie. Pallbearers are Harvey Schultz, Richard Leibert, Eric Leibert, John Smolik, Aklin Smolik and Logun Smolik.
