Martha E. Marek, 86 of Taylor died Saturday, March 29, 2008, at Granger Villa Nursing Home. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at Providence Funeral Home Chapel. Celebration of Life Services will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at Providence Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Walter Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Taylor City Cemetery. Martha Emma Wernli Marek was born on April 12, 1921, to Paul F. and Bertha (Preusse) Wernli, near Coupland in Williamson County, Texas. She married Joe A. Marek on May 10, 1941, and this marriage was blessed with one daughter. They spent all of their married life in the Taylor area. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Taylor. Martha loved her family and was always caring for other people. She adored her grandchildren and the time she spent with them. Martha was a good cook and her family loved her homemade cookies, especially the icebox cookies and her dressing. She enjoyed gardening, crafting, quilting, bowling, bingo, and garage sales. She loved her pets and enjoyed sharing her life with them. Martha was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be greatly missed by her many loving family members and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 49 years, Joe A. Marek who died in May 1990; and a brother, Walter Wernli who died in 1961. Martha is survived by her daughter, Shirley Ball and husband, Eldon of Taylor; grandchildren, Jason Ball and wife, Stephanie, Bethany Ball and Rick Mears all of Taylor; great-grandchildren, Hayden Ball, Drew Ball, Carson Ball, Erin Bell, and William Mears; sisters-in-law, Martha, Hazel, and Laurine; and good friend Linda Romans; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Pallbearers will be Rick Mears, Ronnie Harrison, Teddy Grimm, Alfred (Butch) Preusse, Bill Kostroun, and Randy Pryor. Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 401 West 7th Street, Taylor, Texas, 76574 in Martha's memory.
