Emil August Vitek, 91, a lifetime resident of Granger, Texas, passed away Sunday, June 25, 2006 in Brackenridge hospital with his wife by his side. He was born Sept. 4, 1914 in Granger to Joe J. and Anna (Volcik) Vitek. On August 21, 1945, he was joined in marriage to Adeline Zach. Emil farmed the first half of his life. Upon retiring from farming, for the next 23 years, he oversaw the maintenance and custodial services, as well as being a bus driver for Granger ISD. He was a member of the Granger Brethren Church. Emil talked with everyone. No one was a stranger to him. He loved his fishing, gardening and yard work; if not tending to his own, then to that of several neighbors. When he would slow down it was to listen to Polka music and play his harmonica. He is survived by his wife, Adeline Vitek of Granger; son, Robert G. Vitek and wife Vickie of Hutto; two daughters, Diana Beran and husband Jimmie of Taylor and Judy Trevino of Granger; four grandsons, Greg Beran, David Schwitzer, Matthew Vitek and Zachary Vitek; a sister, Josephine Zrubek of Granger; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, August Vitek and Joe Zajicek; two sisters, Elsie Volek and Emilie McCoy and son-in-law, John Trevino. Memorials may be given to the Granger Brethren Church Building Fund. [Taylor Daily Press, Taylor, TX.] Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 27 at 10 a.m. at Granger Brethren Church with Rev. James Hejl and Rev Albert Michalik officiating. Burial will follow in Taylor City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be his four grandsons and nephews Darwin Zrubek and Melvin Volek. Honorary pallbearers are August James Vitek, Eugene Zrubek, Dannie Volek and Albert Haisler. Condra Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
