OBITUARY: The Belleville Telescope, January 7, 1971 Mrs. Bertha Mae (Shackelton) Stepanek, one of nine children of George and Ella Shackelton, was born April 15, 1884 at Otefo, Kan., and died January 1 at the St. Ann's Rest Home in Concordia at the age of 86 years, 8 months and 16 days. She received her common school education in the schools of Jewell county. May 21, 1902 she was united in marriage to John Elmer Stepanek and to this union three daughters were born. The family lived on a farm in and around the Munden community the greater part of her life. In 1943 they moved to a small acreage near Belleville. In 1963 her health failing she became a resident of the St. Ann's Rest Home of Concordia.She was a member of the Belleville Methodist church. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John in 1945, four brothers, Charlie, William, Frank and Henry. Survivors are: her three daughters, Inez Edwards of Munden, Irene and husband, John Kuchera of Munden, Helen and husband, Art Neubauer of Belleville; two sisters, Mrs. Nannie Craig of Norton, Mrs. Nell Witowski of Independence, Mo.; two brothers, Ed of Smith Center, Ernest of Esbon; 6 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter. Funeral services were held in the Bachelor-Faulkner-Dart Chapel January 5 with the Rev. John W. Frint in charge and interment was made in the Belleville cemetery. Contributor: jln (48112406)
