Bio

Norma Jean Barratt, 87, of Scottsdale, Arizona, passed away peacefully at her home on October 19, 2014. Norma, daughter of Ward and Lottie Travelute and loving wife of George A. Barratt, was recently diagnosed with leukemia. She is survived by George, her husband of sixty-five years; daughter, Susan Sullivan (Larry); and two sons, James and Thomas (Lisa). She is also survived by seven grandchildren and one great-grandson. She was preceded in death by sons, George and Michael. Norma was born in Lebanon, Kansas and graduated from the University of Denver with a bachelor's degree. She was a homemaker for her five children and enjoyed volunteering for Goodwill, Phoenix Symphony Guild, Girl and Cub Scouts, and preschool teaching. She had a great fondness for music and spending time with her family and many friends. Her generosity, fun-loving spirit, and caring nature were captivating and inspiring. Her zest for life has created wonderful memories for everyone she touched. Norma was much beloved by her husband and family. Burial services will be held at 9:00 a.m. this Saturday at Camelback Cemetery in Scottsdale. A memorial will follow at a later date. Published in the Los Angeles Times on October 24, 2014.
