John Joseph Sobotik, 74, of Frenstat Community in Burleson County, Texas died March 25, 2006 in Scott and White Hospital in Temple, Texas. He was born January 11, 1932 to John E. and Amalie (Ptacek) Sobotik in Frenstat. He attended the Frenstat School. John was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic faith at Holy Rosary Catholic Church at an early age. On April 23, 1955 he was married to Josephine Hovorak at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Caldwell, Texas by the Rev. V.A. Svrcek. She was the love of his life. They would have celebrated their 51 anniversary this year. At the age of 17, John left the family farm and journeyed to College Station and his first employment at Sbisa Dining Hall. Next he moved to Houston, Texas where he worked at Continental Can Co. for 23 years as a machine operator. Upon retirement he returned to his home place in Frenstat where he was a rancher for the remainder of his life. John served in the U.S. Army, was stationed in Germany and was honorably discharged. A member of the American Legion and VFW Post 4458 of Caldwell, he was also a member of KJT of Frenstat. He will be remembered by his family and friends as always having a smile on his face and never meeting a stranger. He was a beloved husband and father who loved his family and was very proud of all their accomplishments. John was an avid hunter and fisherman, loved to play bingo and dominoes. He enjoyed taking short gambling trips and playing the slot machines as well as trips to Branson, Missouri where he enjoyed meeting many country artists, proof of which there is on the wall in the den of their home in the way of autographed pictures he received from the artists. John never had a harsh word to say about anyone and always tried to see the good things in people, was thoughtful, kind, gentle, and loved by everyone. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Clem Sobotik and Ernest Sobotik and three sisters; Rosie Kacer, Martha Leggett, and Bernice Ainsworth. Survivors include his wife Josephine, three daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Albin Horak Jr, Mary Jane and Kenneth Kosh, and Deborah Lynn and Robert Kucera. He is further survived by seven grandchildren; Stacy Horak, Al Horak, Sheila Horak, Shelly Horak, Clinton Kosh, Clayton Kosh, and Bobby Kucera, two sisters, Milady Janac and Mary Ann Bayzik. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am, Tuesday, March 28, with the family present from 5:00 pm. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell.
