Bio
Graveside services for Geneva Dean, 87, of Palestine were at Land of Memory Cemetery with Rev. Max Martin officiating. Mrs. Dean died at Greenbriar Nursing Home where she had been living with her daughter, Merri, since November 2011. She was born in Silvester, Texas to Daniel Webster and Mattie Wilson Knight. Her childhood was spent mostly in Quitman, Tx where she graduated from high school. She attended Sam Houston State Teachers College after marrying Burma and worked as a telephone operator there. After college, she and her husband lived in Corsicana, Petrolia and Byers until finally moving to Palestine. She was a housewife and a caregiver to special needs daughter, Merri, along with substitute teaching at Westwood Elementary. Mrs. Dean was a loving wife and mother of five children and a member of the Palestine-Long Lake Community since 1961. She was preceded in death by her husband, Burma Dean; her parents, Mattie and Daniel Knight; and two brothers, Gene and Ray Knight. Mrs. Dean is survived by her sisters, Loretts Jones and Jeanette Morris; her five children and their spouses; Gary and Sara Dean, Sherri and Roger Bell, Kerry and Karen Dean, Sue and Chris Ellis and Merri Dean. She was the grandmother of five grandchildren and great grandmother to six. (Obit: Palestine Herald Press 2/28/2012)
