Bio
Leola Withers Dimond, age 89, of Mesa, Arizona, passed away on October 11, 2014 after a long battle with cancer. Leola was born September 19, 1925 in Sandy, Utah to Robert Spackman Withers and Bessie LeRoy Stuart Withers. She grew up in Draper, Utah and in her mid-teens worked at the Draper Theatre. She attended the local area schools and graduated from Jordan High School, where she was a member of the Charlonian's, an academic and pep club. Leola, who was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, married Lee G. Dimond on December 1, 1943 in the Salt Lake Temple. She, along with her husband and family, lived in West Jordan, Utah for most of her life. During this time, she was employed as a secretary by both O.C. Tanner & Co. and the Jordan School District. Leola held LDS Church positions in the Primary, Mutual Improvement Association, and Relief Society organizations. She also sang in the ward choir and was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Leola served in the Parent Teachers Association of both the West Jordan Elementary and Bingham High schools. In 1979, Leola graduated from the University of Utah, cum laude, with a B. A. in Art History. In the early 1990's, she and her husband purchased a second home in Arizona and then retired there permanently in 2005. Leola was preceded in death by her husband, Lee G. Dimond; her parents, Robert and Bessie Withers; and her brother, Robert (Bob) Withers. Leola is survived by her sister, Marge Conkle, Salt Lake City, Utah; and sister-in-law, Wanda Rose Withers, Sandy, Utah; as well as her seven children and spouses: son, Marlin Lee, and Sally Dimond of Phoenix, Arizona; daughter, Shannon D., and John J. Grosko of Roswell, Georgia; son, Brice Withers, and Lynea Dimond of Eagle Mountain, Utah; daughter, Debra D. Allen, of Mesa, Arizona; son, Val Withers, and Jona Dimond of Jerome, Idaho; son, Lindsay Withers, and Janalee Dimond of Buhl, Idaho; and daughter, Holly Liesl, and Mark Heldt of McKinney, Texas. She is also survived by twenty-seven grandchildren and forty-two great-grandchildren. A viewing will be held on Friday, October 17, 2014 at Goff Mortuary, 8090 South State Street (100 East), Midvale, Utah. Family and friends may call between the hours of 6:00-8:00 p.m. A funeral will be held in the mortuary on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at 10:00 a.m., after which Leola will be laid to rest in the West Jordan City Cemetery next to her husband.
