Bio
Thomas was born in #4 Zveretice, son of Jakob Borovka and Anna John. His father died in Zveretice on June 20, 1877 at age 35 years, 1 month and 15 days. Thomas and his mother arrived in New York City on June 7, 1881 on the ship USS Ohio, traveling with Anna's brother Andrew John, Memorial #72231373. ~~~~~~ Borovka Rites Held Tuesday Thomas Andrew Borovka, 83, died Saturday, Sept. 26 at the Ord Hospital after a three year illness. Funeral services were held from the Hastings-Pearson chapel at 2 p.m. Tuesday and were conducted by Rev. Allan Martin. Mrs. Orin Kellison accompanied Mrs. Hal Mason, soloist. Committal services were in Ord City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Frank Pilanowski, Ralph Burson, John John, Albert Turek, Albert Ptacnik and Frank John. Mr. Borovka was born in Czechoslovakia, Dec. 7, 1875. He emigrated to this country with his widowed mother when he was five. They settled in Valley county, which remained his home until death. Thomas married Anna Turek Oct 31, 1900 in Geranium Township. He farmed near Ord until his retirement in 1938, when they moved to Ord. With the widow are survivors: one daughter, Mrs. Anna Kluna of Ord; one granddaughter and one great-grandchild. The Ord Quiz, October 1, 1959, page 8, transcribed by Linda Berney
