She graduated from Grand Island High School in 1940. In 1947, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hastings College and moved to Pueblo, Colo., to teach. She later taught in Grand Island and was principal of Dodge School for five years. She earned a master's degree in Education from the University of Nebraska in 1955 and began serving as elementary consultant for the Nebraska Department of Education. She married Erwin H. She was elected to two terms on the Lincoln school board, beginning in 1973, and served as both vice president and president. She was an advocate of equality of educational access for all and a strong supporter of multicultural education and women's sports. A longtime member of American Lutheran Church in Lincoln, she attended World Council of Churches assemblies in Sweden and Brazil. She was the Coordinator of Tabitha Home's Meals on Wheels program.
