Helen Martha Stanek Magruder 88, of Kirksville passed away Saturday, September 27, 2014, at the Kirksville Manor Care Center. The daughter of Joseph and Agnes (Kastl) Stanek, Helen was born January 18, 1926 in Brainard, NE. On December 14, 1945 in Olathe, KS she was united in marriage to Ennis Dwight Magruder who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Richard Stanek; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, one sister-in-law, Lois Magruder and nephews, Ralph Edward Magruder and Paul Stanek and one niece, Trudy Stanek. Helen is survived by her eleven children which include seven sons, Donald Magruder and wife, Kay of Kirksville, Carroll Magruder and wife, Sandy of Clever, MO, Lonnie Magruder and wife, Donna of Gibbs, MO, Robert Magruder and wife, Mary of Brashear, MO, Raymond Magruder and wife, Ronna of Kirksville, Roger Magruder and wife, Brenda of Kirksville, and Marvin Magruder and wife, Glenda of Gibbs, MO, and four daughters, Sharon Patton of Charleston, IL, Geneva Davidson and husband, Tom of Ottawa, KS, Charolotte Baldridge and husband, Jerry of San Antonio, TX and Barbara Newcomer and husband, Randy of Kirksville; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leonard Stanek and wife, Bonnie of Baring, MO and Willard Stanek and wife, Karen of Missouri Valley, IA; brother-in-law, Dorrance Magruder of Brashear, MO and several nieces and nephews. Helen moved to Hurdland, MO in 1939. After her marriage in 1945, she was a stay at home mother until the last of her children went to school. She went to work at Northeast Missouri State University (now Truman State University) in 1966, retiring in the fall of 1980. Helen was an active volunteer with the R.S.V.P. program, volunteering at the Nutrition Site. She served on the Gibbs School Board and worked at the polling places in Brashear and Kirksville for the Election Board. Helen was a quilter, she liked to garden and especially liked to take care of her family. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 30, 2014, at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Reverend Sheila Swafford officiating. Musical selections will be “Till We Meet Again”, Amazing Grace” and “When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder”. Burial will be in the Park View Memorial Gardens in Kirksville, MO. Pallbearers will be Jason Newcomer, John Patton, Danny Magruder, Tommy Davidson, Lonnie W. Magruder and Bobby Magruder. Honorary bearers will be Aaron Davidson, Michael Magruder, Joey Magruder, Matthew Magruder, David Magruder and Matthew Baldridge. Visitation with the family will be from noon to time of the service at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 30, 2014, at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, 2100 E.
