' Mrs Mary Elizabeth S C G "Betty" (Carver) (Johnson) Harp was born perhaps about 1863 in Bowling Green, Warren County, Kentucky, and she was the daughter of Henry C Carver (ca 1826– ) and Rachel A (Richey) Carver (ca 1828– ). {The 1870 census for Allen County, Tennessee has Mary E S G Carver as age 7, while the 1880 census has Mary E S C G Carver as age 16, and that would belie her birth year of 1872 as listed on her Death Certificate.} Betty was married 1st about 1883 to William "Ewing" Johnson (1853–1937), the son of James Jimmy Johnson (1801–1880) and America Ann (Stovall) Johnson (1811–1856). Betty and Ewing were divorced sometime between the 1900 and 1910 censuses in Allen County, because in the 1910 census Ewing was listed as divorced. Betty was married 2nd as the 2nd wife of Calvin Anderson Harp (1867–1957), the son of William Harp (ca 1836– ) and Sallie ( -- ) Harp (ca 1840– ). Living in Clarksville, Montgomery County, Tennessee since about 1903, she was a member of the Nazarene Church. She was {NOT 71 years old as listed on her Death Certificate, but} about 80 years old and married and was visiting her daughter Mrs Ed Rittenberry at 209 McKinnel Avenue in Nashville when she became ill, and passed away on November 18, 1943. Survivors included her husband C A Harp in Clarksville, daughters Mrs Ed Rittenberry of Nashville, Mrs A D Wagster at Lake Charles, Louisiana and Mrs R C Johnson in Memphis, Tennessee, thirteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. Funeral Services were held on November 19th at the Rittenberry home, and burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery in Nashville. Much of the above is from her Death Certificate, with Calvin Harp of 209 McKennel Avenue, Nashville as the informant. Additional information is from her published obituary in NASHVILLE BANNER on November 19, 1943.
