Winnie Hopkins Bennett, 93, of Houston passed away Sunday, September 21, 2014. Winnie was born July 12, 1921 in Teneha, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband Malcolm D. Bennett, son M. Wallace Bennett and granddaughter, Robin Bennett Domme. Survivors include her children, Sue Bennett Peterson & husband Nelson, Bruce Bennett & wife Maureen, Bob Bennett & wife Mary as well as 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Winnie grew up in Port Arthur and was the head bugler in the Port Arthur High School Red Hussars. After high school she attended Sam Houston State Teachers College until her marriage in 1942. The Bennetts moved to Houston shortly after being married where they raised their family. Winnie was a vivacious, feisty lady who was an excellent family manager. Her expertise in the kitchen was legendary among her family and friends. She was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed watching and talking about her favorite teams, players and coaches. Above all, though, she adored spending time with her grandchildren and her family. She was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed.
