MOTHER AND BABE DEAD BODIES BURIED HER Mrs. Elsye Griffin Brown, born near Devine, Oct. 31st, 1901, passed away in childbirth at Kerrville, early Monday, October 23rd, 1939, and the body, with babe in arms, resting in a grey casket was brought here late Monday by a Kerrville undertaker and placed in the Redus Undertaking parlors, and the next afternoon, buried after services at the Methodist Church, where she joined in her girlhood days. She is survived by her husband, Archie C. Brown; two daughters, Mrs. Lorice Tampkin and Tine Marie; her aged father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. D.H. Griffin; four sisters, Mrs. Eunice Haass, Mrs. Fay Thetford, Mrs.Ina Evans and Mrs. Iris Rabb; three brothers, Alton and Claude Griffin, and Josh Martin, a half brother. She came of pioneer and the oldest families in this section, the Griffin and Herrings (mother's family). The funeral was conducted by Rev. S.R. Horwood, pastor, the editor assisting, and the bodies were laid to rest in Evergreen Cemetery and the grave covered with beautiful flowers. The pallbearers were John F. and Arnold Griffin; Raymond Bendele, of Devine; Fred Murray, of San Angelo; H.B. Engleman and Arthur Walker, of Kerrville.
