Bio

Roy T. Savage, age 88 of Evansville, formerly of Tipton County, Indiana, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 17th after complications of dementia. He was living at the River Pointe Health Campus, Evansville, since suffering a fall in 2012. Roy (RT) was the son of the Rev. Fines C. & Pearl (Free) Savage. He was born in Joplin, MO October 15, 1925. His father was a Nazarene Evangelist. RT was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters: Ilah (Hight), Marie (Rice), Cleo, Phineas, Claude, Margaret (Dale) & Curt. In 1949 he married Jean Lindley at the First Church of the Nazarene, Kokomo. Jean preceded him in death in 2013. RT was drafted into WWII while in Kokomo High School and joined the 69th Infantry of the US Army in 1944. His service culminated in the liberation of the German city of Leipzig, where the US and Russian Armies joined at the Elbe River. He was awarded The Bronze Star. After WWII he graduated from Kokomo High School and attended Olivet Nazarene College and Indiana University, Kokomo. In 1950, he became an Agent of the Prudential Insurance Co. of America for forty years, and was a twenty-year member of the Kokomo Underwriter’s Association. Growing up, RT was often part of barbershop and gospel quartets. Throughout his life, he was a soloist and choir member at 1st Church of the Nazarene, Kokomo; the Friends Meeting, Russiaville; and Christian Fellowship Church, Evansville. He served on numerous committees and in leadership roles within the Church. From 1965 to 1977 he served on the Northern Community (Tri-Central) School Board, including one term as President. RT also enjoyed caring for their family farm and raising livestock in Prairie Township for 35 years. After moving to Evansville in 1995, he received much pleasure attending his grandsons’ activities. RT’s family would like to thank the associates at River Pointe Health Campus Evansville for the warm care they have provided. He is survived by two sons, John (Larry Cabradilla, Jr.) of San Francisco, CA, and David (Becky Price) of Evansville, along with their three sons Matthew (Indianapolis), Luke (Evansville) and Andrew (Savannah). He is also survived by his many dear nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Kokomo Rescue Mission, P.O. Box 476, Kokomo, IN 46903 or Evansville Rescue Mission, 500 East Walnut St, Evansville, IN 47713. Funeral services will be at 3 pm on Sunday, September 21, 2014 at Stout & Son Funeral Home 200 E. Main St. in Russiaville with Pastor Jamie Lyon officiating. Burial will follow at New London Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday from 4 to 7 pm at the funeral home and on Sunday from 2 pm till the start of the funeral service. Online condolences may be left at www.stoutandson.com.
