Bio

Agnes was born Aug. 14, 1915, and raised in Carroll Township, north of Toledo, the daughter of Rudolph and Mary Kubik Sevcik. She attended school in the area of her birth at Carroll No. 4 school. On Oct. 6, 1936, she married William Yanda of Toledo at St. Wenceslaus Church in rural Clutier. They farmed northeast of Toledo for 40 years. After the death of her husband, Agnes moved to Toledo in 1977. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church of rural Vining, St. Patrick's Church of Tama, CC Women's Society, KD Lodge 149 and Farm Bureau Township Homemakers. As a modern woman, Agnes had a sense of wit and humor and especially enjoyed visiting family members and telling jokes or reading from her personal joke book. She enjoyed life on the farm and gardening, raising many of her own fruits and vegetables. She was the owner of recipe books for cooking American and Czech food, especially egg noodles, kolaches and rohlickys for her children and grandchildren. Agnes loved reading, fishing and playing cards, especially pepper. She extensively traveled in Europe, Canada and the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rudolph and Mary Sevcik; husband, William; brother, Frank Sevcik; and sisters, Lucille Sebetka and Hermina Novotny.
