CPL US ARMY KOREA Published in the Groveton News, Feb 23, 2006 Obituary Grady Perkins Funeral services for Grady Perkins, 76, of Wakefield were held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 18, 2006 in the First Baptist Church of Corrigan with Pastor Robert Lankford and Mason Moody officiating. Interment followed in the Wheeler Cemetery. Mr. Perkins was born April 5, 1929 in the Wakefield Community of Polk County and passed away Friday, February 17, 2006 in a Lufkin Hospital. He worked as a pressman for several major newspapers around the country, The Miami Herald, Chicago Tribune, Detroit Free Press, Houston Post and Chronicle, and the Beaumont Enterprise. He served as a member of the Gus A. Brandt Masonic Lodge #1296 in Houston, and the Rosewyn Order of the Eastern Star #927 in Houston. Mr. Perkins also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Myrtie Courtney Perkins: brothers, L.H. Perkins, Elmer Perkins, Allen Perkins, and Loppie Perkins; and sister Vona Arledge. Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Betty Herring Perkins of Wakefield; daughters and sons-in-law Leila Raye and Billy Smith of Wakefield, Peggy Jean and Don Miller of Corrigan, Kelly Perkins of New Caney; step-son Jim Bob Rogers of Nacogdoches; step-daughters and spouse, Pat Orr of Crockett, Ark., Sue and Joe Bellman of Splendora; sisters, Velma Fox of China, Texas; sisters-in-law, Marie Perkins of Beaumont, and Helen Perkins of Wakefield; brother-in-law Don and Gloria Arledge of Lake Jackson, Texas; 11 grand-children; 5 great grand-children; and special friends, Luann Miller and Brenda Rogers. Grandsons were pallbearers. Services entrusted to Corrigan Funeral Home, Inc.
