Elva Joann "Sugar" Hines Garrett (December 8, 1923 - February 28, 2008) Elva Joann"Sugar" Hines Garrett, 84, a lifetime resident of Grand Prairie, Texas, passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2008. Elva was born on Saturday, December 8, 1923 in Denison, Texas. Elva was given the nickname "Sugar", because she was so sweet. She was a 1942 graduate of Grand Prairie High School. Elva married her high school sweetheart, Wendell Ray Garrett. She enjoyed the activities of her sons Don and Dave, and her grandson Doug, and playing weekly poker games with her dear friends, and being a wonderful Grandma. Elva loved to take weekend trips to her beautiful home at Lake Whitney and annual trips to Port Isabel, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband Wendell Ray Garrett (in 1985), and son Don W. Garrett (in 1987). Survived by: son: David B. Garrett and his wife Deb; grandson: Doug Garrett; and nieces and nephews. Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, March 1, 2008, at Faith Lutheran Church in Grand Prairie, Texas. Interment: Southland Cemetery in Grand Prairie, Texas.
