tall pointed gray stone (this must have been replaced with the newer stone posted in the memorial's photo gallery, as this current headstone does not match the description given by the original creator of this memorial)
Alice Edith Herbert was daughter of George Preston Herbert, Jr & Martha Forbs. She was born in the Sparta Community in Bell County, Texas on March 7, 1879 (note headstone has wrong birth year and wrong death year). Alice Edith Herbert-Youmans-Wallace died on December 19, 1923 and was buried in Liberty Hill Cemetery and when Liberty Hill Cemetery closed she was removed for burial to Resthaven Cemetery (both cemeteries in Bell county, Texas). It appears that the original headstone in Liberty Hill Cemetery was lost and new one set when she was moved to Resthaven. (Notice: the original creator of this memorial states that it was a tall pointed grey headstone which must describe the original headstone perhaps in Liberty Hill Cemetery, not the one in Resthaven now - the one posted in the photo on this memorial in Resthaven cemetery is not a tall pointed gray headstone, but rather likely a newer replacement headstone). Therefore, we assume whomever had the newer headstone made (a daughter, as new headstone states Mother) has incorrect birth/death year engraved and/or perhaps the wrong birth/death year only were engraved on the original tall pointed gray headstone?. Instead of 1880-1924 it should state 1879-1923 (see Tx Death Certificate for proof of birth and death year which shows for certain that she died in 1923 and the informant shows she was born in 1879 versus 1880). 1st Marriage: James Christam Youmans (1877-1955) on September 11, 1904 in Killeen, Bell County, Texas. They had at least two children: son, Herbert Pierce Youmans (1906-1970) and daughter, Esterlene Herbert-Wallace-Phipps-Reed (1910-2003). Family notes indicate that James left the family and moved to California shortly after 2nd child was born in 1910 and then Alice married Matthew Alexander Wallace II in 1913. James Christam Youmans was born 24 Jan 1877 in Hampton County, South Carolina. He was living in Young County, Texas in the 1900 census (single) with a Groves family. He married Alice on Sept. 11, 1904 in Killeen, Bell County, Texas. He left the family and moved to California shortly after 1910 and he died on Dec. 08, 1955 and was buried in the Mt Hope Cemetery in National City, San Diego County, California. In the 1920 Precinct 7, Bell County Texas Census the two Youmans children are listed as Wallace (step-father surname) and living with mother Alice and and her 2nd husband and Wallace children born by 1920 via Alice's 2nd marriage. 2nd Marriage: Matthew Alexander Wallace II and Alice Edith Herbert-Youmans married on November 16, 1913 in Bell County, Texas. They had at least four children: 1) Burl Richard Wallace (1914-1929); 2) Beulah Mareen Wallace-Seamans-Clark (1916-2001) who married 1st: Ray Edmond Seamans in 1933 in Oklahoma; 2nd: Lee Neil Clark in 1943 in Rockwall, Texas. 3) Joseph Matthew Wallace (1917-1996) who first married Juanita Marie Plunk in 1949 and had at least two children (Juanita died in 1960) and then Joseph married Helen Agatha Henning-Wooldridge in 1984 (no children of 2nd marriage); 4) Billie Louise Wallace-McCoy (1920-still living in April 2009) who married Earl Theodore McCoy and had at least one daughter. Matthew also had two children from his first marriage to Dora Pauline "Polina" Eversole: Franklin Alexander Wallace and Cecil Ambus Wallace. Alice had two children via her first marriage (listed above under 1st marriage). Alice and Matthew had 4 children via their 2nd marriages. So, they had 8 children total (natural born to their marriage 4 children).
