Ellen Lorene Waterman March 14, 1957-Sept 11, 1962 Mother, Girl Die in Blaze Royal, Neb., Woman in Futile Rescue Try The World-Herald’s News Service. Royal, Neb.—a small girl and her mother were both killed, the mother in a futile rescue attempt, when fire swept a two-story frame house Tuesday morning. The victims were Mrs. Louis Waterman, about 40, and her kindergarten-aged daughter, Ellen. The tragedy occurred when fire broke out in the attic of the home. Its cause has not been determined. Mrs. Waterman, apparently awakened by the fire, rushed to the village firehouse and gave the alarm. Meanwhile her husband and eight of their nine children fled the home. When Mrs. Waterman returned to the scene some one told her that Ellen was still in the upstairs bedroom. Mrs. Waterman Dashed into the burning house, where both she and the firl were overcome. Firemen pulled the two from the home and attempted to revive them with artificial respiration. Fireman from Orchard helped fight the fire, which extensively damaged the house.
