Lois Christine (Baker) Gruntorad (1930-2013) Lois Gruntorad was born on September 23, 1930 in Ericson, Nebraska where she spent her childhood years. Lois married her best friend and love of her life, Ervin Gruntorad on January 4, 1958. Just a few weeks ago, they celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. Shortly after their marriage, Ervin and Lois moved to San Diego, where they resided until 1976 when they moved to Lemoore. Lois had a passion for books her entire life; first in the Sandhills of Nebraska, where her family would often find her with her nose in a book, most often out in the pasture on horseback! Her first career was as a teacher, and it was in a Lexington, Nebraska one-room schoolhouse where Ervin first spied his future bride. In San Diego, she was a homemaker and worked in an insurance office. The career she most loved and valued though, was her many years spent as the base librarian at NAS Lemoore. Lois received great enjoyment and satisfaction from seeing others share her love and passion for books. Patrons of the library could find her dressed up as a clown or even making green eggs and ham for the children in honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday. In 1990, Lois was suffering from Polycystic Kidney Disease, and received the gift of life through a kidney transplant. This transplant gave Lois over 22 years of life and she was always grateful to the family of the victim that donated this kidney. She always lived life to the fullest, regardless of her medical issues. After retiring from the library, Lois and Ervin loved traveling to visit friends and family. They took regular trips to Nebraska and San Diego, but also enjoyed an Alaskan cruise, as well as trips to New Orleans, Florida, the Pacific Northwest, and Hawaii. Lois also loved visiting Yosemite National Park and the Central Coast of California. Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Hilma Baker, her sister Beverly Jacobs, and two stillborn babies, Merry Ann and James Stanley. Lois is survived by husband Ervin (Lemoore, CA), her daughter Susan and husband Jeff Balch (San Diego), her sisters Alfreda Baker (Grand Island, NE), and Janice Bollish (North Platte, NE), many nieces and nephews, and her grandpuppy, Torrey. Ervin, Susan, and Jeff wish to thank their church family at the Lemoore Presbyterian Church for their love and support, for the medical care she received from Dr. Buchanan and Dr. Levy over the years, and the caregivers at Hacienda Rehabilitation and Health Care. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Lemoore Presbyterian Church, 260 B Street, Lemoore, California on Saturday, January 26th at 11:00 A.M. A luncheon reception will follow. The family requests that donations in the memory of Lois be made to either the Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation at www.pkdcure.org or the Lemoore Presbyterian Church at P.O.
