The Hillsboro Reporter Monday, February 7, 2000 JOE MC KNIGHT 1925-2000 Mr. Joe B. McKnight, 75, of Belton died Thursday, February 3, in a San Antonio hospital. He was born January 17,1925 in Whitney, son of Robert W. and Mattie Matthews McKnight, and grew up in Hill County. A World War II Army Air Corp. veteran, he was an air traffic controller for the Federal Aviation Administration for 36 years. He also was the airport manager for the Killeen Municipal Airport from 1981 to 1992 and taught avaition law at Central Texas College for a number of years. He was honored for being involved in many improvements that were made throughout the air traffic system since he first entered duty in 1949. He married Avis Gene Sullivan April 12, 1947 in Hillsboro. He was a member Temple Amateur Radio Operator Club. Survivors include: his wife; one daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Ben Hogue of Driftwood; one son, Dana McKnight of Surfside, six grandchildren; and one great-grand daughter. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 5, at First Presbyterian Church in Belton with Rev. Judy Liljestrand officiating. Graveside services were held at 2:30p.m. Saturday at Hillcrest Garden of Memory Cemetery near Hillsboro. Memorial may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Belton.
