PLATTSMOUTH — Monica S. Zoucha, 96, of Plattsmouth, formerly of Clarks, died at Golden Living Center in Plattsmouth on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Clarks. Father Richard Whiteing will officiate. Burial is in the Calvary Cemetery near Clarks. Solt Funeral Home in Central City and Polk is in charge of the arrangements. Monica Sophia was born on Sept. 16, 1917, in rural Nance County to Phillip and Anna (Boro) Zegar. She grew up in Nance County and received her education in country school. After completing her schooling, Monica worked for the Dan Hayes family, living with them and helping with their five children, which included newborn twins. She then worked at Patty Roach’s cafe in Clarks and candling eggs at Swift’s in Columbus. On Jan. 13, 1941, Monica was united in marriage to Benedict Basil “Ben” Zoucha. They lived in Buffalo, N.Y., during World War II and then returned to Clarks to raise their family, Bendy, Connie and Stephanie. Ben died in 1995 and Monica continued to live in their home in Clarks until moving to Plattsmouth in 2011. Monica was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Clarks and the Altar Society. After moving to the Golden Living Center, she faithfully attended Mass there. She enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren, car rides with Ben to observe the growing crops, reading her newspapers and watching the news, visiting Catholic churches and cemeteries in other towns, listening to Ben and his siblings practice Polish music and she loved fried chicken and apple pie. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Connie and Dale Daigh of Bellevue and Stephanie and Dan McClure of Plattsmouth; daughter-in-law, Rita Zoucha of Clarks; seven grandchildren, Tracy (Dan) Grasso, Gina (Matt) Walsh and Danielle (Brad) Jessen, all of Omaha, Carolee McClure of Jenks, Okla., Sherri Zoucha of St. Edward, Dominic (Amber) Zoucha of Genoa and Dyrek (Kayla) Zoucha of Clarks; 10 great-grandchildren, Jacob, Alexandra, Gabrielle and Olivia Grasso, Patrick and Delaney Walsh and Hunter Hawthorne, all of Omaha, Beau and Caylyn Zoucha of Genoa and Alexi Zoucha of Clarks; a sister-in-law, Clara Ann Olsan of Columbus; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding Monica in death were her husband on Aug. 24, 1995; her son, Benedict C. “Bendy” Zoucha on July 4, 2001; a grandson, Brent Zoucha, on June 9, 2006; a son-in-law, Eugene Oberhauser on March 10, 1983; her parents; four sisters, Mary Chohon, Lillian Kuhn, Rose Beck and Clara Zoucha; and three brothers, Henry Zegar, Virgil Zegar and Alex Olsan.
