Rush Springs Gazette November 14, 1929 Gun Discharge Kills O.P. Foster Accident Occurs at 7:30 Sunday Morning at family home four miles north. Funeral services for Oliver Perry Foster, who was killed Sunday morning at 7:30 when his shotgun was accidentally discharged, were held at the Church of Christ Monday afternoon at 3 O'clock, Rev. Robert Alexander having charge. Interment was made in the Rush Springs cemetery. Practically all Rush Springs business houses were closed during the funeral. The entire Rush Springs community was shocked early Sunday morning when the word was passed that Mr. Foster, an old and highly respected citizen of this community had been instantly killed when his shot gun was accidentally discharged as he passed though the front door, four miles north of Rush Springs, the entire load entering his head. Members of the family believe that he had started to shoot at a flock of crows that have destroying the crops in that vicinity. Hearing the shot, members of the family rushed to the scene, but Mr. Foster was killed instantly. Oliver Perry Foster was born at Somerset, Kentucky, in 1872 and departed this life at home four miles north of Rush Springs, Sunday November 10, 1929, age 57 years, 10 months and 27 days. Mr. Foster left Kentucky in 1891, going to Marletta; went from there to Gainesville, Texas, in 1900; coming to Rush Springs in 1923 and spending the remainder of his life here. The deceased had for 42 years been a song leader in the Church of Christ, and his passing is sincerely mourned by the entire community.
