Graveside service for Iva Lee "Ivy" Haversano, 87, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014, at Fort Sill National Cemetery under direction of Comanche Nation Funeral Home with Brother Eddie Coast officiating. Iva died Monday, Aug. 4, 2014, at a Norman hospital. Iva Lee "Ivy" Haversano was born Aug. 28, 1926, in Lawton. She was one of seven children born to Otto and Stella Shelton. She was 87 at the time of her death and fought hard to make it to 88, but in spite of her faith, strength and desire to live, it was not to be. She taught herself to tap dance as a child by watching her favorite star at the time, Shirley Temple, and continued to entertain all of us throughout her life. Even when the years had robbed her of her balance she would dance to our delight while clinging to her walker. She sang like an angel and was so good, in fact, she was once asked to audition for the Jimmy Dorsey orchestra, but was too shy to grace the world with her talent. She attended Lawton High School and worked as a telephone operator and worked as a cashier. During World War II she, like so many others, volunteered her time to support the war effort. She met Rudy Haversano at the local USO and they married Feb. 4, 1949, in Childress, Texas. They owned and operated Italian restaurants in Lawton and New York. She was a homemaker and a wonderful mother. She survived by her two sons: Robert and Ronald Haversano, both of Lawton; her cousin, Mary Lou Dunning; many nieces, nephews and other cousins, who although were not always present, remained in her heart till the end. She was preceded in death by her parents: Otto and Stella Shelton; brothers: Lloyd, Claude and Mid Shelton; sisters: Naomi Stover, Hazel Gregory and her baby sister Viola Hines; niece, Cheryl Lynn Krog; nephews: Earnest Shelton and Wayne Shelton; and husband, Rudy Haversano. There will be no viewing for Iva Lee.
