______________________________________ FUNERAL SERVICES SET THURSDAY FOR EARLY ELECTRIC TRAM DRIVER Funeral services for J. S. TURNER, 86, a pioneer who ran one of the first electric streetcars in Dallas, will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Free Methodist Church, 2819 Vine. He died at his home, 1201 South Tyler, Tuesday. TURNER, in 1890, drove the South Belt streetcar from downtown Dallas to the region of Fair Park. His was one of the then two electric trolleys in Dallas. The other car, known as the North Belt, ran in the general direction of Highland Park. Other streetcars then were horse-drawn. A native Texas, Turner once chased Indians near Austin for two days trying to recover stolen horses. In his later life he became power engineer for the Dallas Athletic Club, serving in that capacity until his retirement about fifteen years ago. Surviving are his wife; three sons, Ed L. TURNER, Ernest W. TURNER, and John S. TURNER, Jr., all of Dallas; two daughters, Mrs. W. B. VAN METER of Arlington and Mrs. F. M. GRAVES (sic-Groves) of Dallas.
