Civil War records of 5th Iowa Calvary. William E. Winsor mustered in service November 1, 1862 in 5th Iowa Calvary, company F. He was age 19, born in New York. His residence was Andrew, Jackson county, Iowa. His unit was reorganized August 8, 1864 and he was in 5th Veteran Iowa Calvary Consolidated, in company H. He mustered out of service with his unit on June 17, 1865 at Nashville, Tennessee, after the end of the war.
