Son of Thomas and Bertha Louisiana Grand Champion Fiddler, Member of Louisiana Country Music Hall of Fame ∼ James "Dallas" Cooley, age 92, of Kinder, LA passed away on Sunday, August 8, 2021 surrounded by his family. Dallas was born Sept. 25, 1928 in DeRidder, LA to Reverend Thomas and Bertha Cooley. He had a twin brother, Dale. Dallas lived most of his life in Lake Charles, LA. Dallas was a veteran of The United States Army and served in The Korean War. He was proud to serve his country. Dallas was a Staff Sgt 38th Field Artillery, 1951 - 1952. He volunteered to remove the wounded and dead soldiers from the mountains of Heart Break Ridge. He received bronze stars and metals of honor. Dallas loved western swing music and he was a great self-taught musician. He played the guitar and the fiddle. Dallas' love for the fiddle won him a State Champion Fiddler Award in 2002. Those left to cherish his memories are: wife of 22 years, Shirley Cooley of Kinder, LA; four daughters, Richelle Zauzaur & Raymond of Birmingham, AL, Joan Pierce & Joey of Mobile, AL, Carmon Smith & Thad of Little Elm, TX and Fayetta Stracener of DeRidder, LA; one son, Danny Cooley & Vickie of Lake Charles, LA; five step-children; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Thomas & Bertha Cooley; brothers, Covey Cooley, Carl Cooley, Maurice Cooley and Dale Cooley; sisters, Wanda Seale and Lois Cryer; and step-daughter, Delane Carlin.
