OBITUARY Joseph Hrdy was born October 6, 1843, in Welenovech, Planice Co. Czechoslovakia and died at his home in Ord, Nebr. April 1, 1930; at the age of 86 years, 5 months and 26 days. In 1861 at the age of 18 he came to America and was engaged in oyster fisheries in Maryland. He enlisted in the Union Army and served for a year. In 1863 he returned to Czechoslovakia where he was united in marriage with Mary Votipka. In 1869, he came to America trusting that his wife and children would join him in the near future, but on account of his wife's illness, he was obliged to make the trip again to Czechoslovakia. In 1871 he brought his family to America making their home in Michigan. After a seven years residence there, he brought his family to Fillmore Co. Nebr., where they farmed for two years. From there they went to Rawlins Co., Kansas, where again Mr. Hrdy was engaged in farming, and part of the time he was employed by he Burlington Railroad Co. whose railroad between Hastings and Denver was then under construction. In 1882, he and his wife, four sons and four daughters came to Valley County, Nebr., making the entire trip (in) a covered wagon. They settled on a farm nine miles west of Ord and resided there, till 1903, when moving to Ord which was Mr. Hrdy's home until the time of his death. His wife preceded him in death 16 years ago, and a daughter Mrs. Frances Kosmata, 39 years ago, and another daughter Mrs. Anna Lukes, 9 months ago. Those who live to mourn his departure are his sons, Joseph of Prague, Okla., Frank of Walthill, Nebr., James of Ord, and Anton of Atkinson, Nebr. Two daughters, Mrs. Mary Davie of Omaha, and Mrs. Josephine Cerny of Oklahoma City, Okla. Also a sister, Mrs. Anna Stupka of Burwell, Nebr., twenty four grandchildren. Three great grand children, and numerous other relatives and friends. Out of town relatives attending his funeral were; Joseph Hrdy, a son, of Prague, Okla., Frank Hrdy, a son of Walthill. Nebr., Anton Hrdy, a son of Atkinson, Nebr., and family, Clara Bohacek, of Omaha, a grand-daughter, Mrs. Chas. Fryzek, of Omaha, a niece, Ben Votypka, of Filmore, Nebr., a nephew, Helen Davie of Omaha, a grand-daughter. The Ord Quiz - Thur, Apr 17 1930, Pg 3, Col 5
