ORD — Leon Edward Klanecky, 81, of Ord died Friday, July 8, 2005, at the Veterans Medical Center in Omaha. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Ord United Methodist Church. The Rev. Michael Chase will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord City Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by Ord American Legion Post 38 and Ord VFW Post 7029. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ord Memorial Chapel. Mr. Klanecky was born Feb. 23, 1924, in northeast Valley County to William Joseph and Froney (Adamek) Klanecky. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Susan. Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Mary Klanecky; three sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Jeanie Klanecky, Bill and Peg Klanecky, Tom and Jane Klanecky, all of Ord; two daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and Leonard Krason of Ord and Lori and Tom Nelson of North Platte; and five sisters and four brothers-in-law, Wilma and Leon Foulk of Ericson, Lillian Benson of North Loup, Norma and Gary Krikac of Burwell, Barbara and Wayne Rakosky of Grand Island and Ron and Bonnie Wells of Cotesfield. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Leon was raised on the family farm in Valley County, where he also received his education. He worked on the family farm during World War II. In 1944 he enlisted in the United States Navy, following his older brother, William's death in the Philippines. He served in the Navy until he was discharged in 1946. On Jan. 3, 1948, he married Mary M. Philbrick at Grand Island. The couple made their home in Ord. Leon farmed for a number of years until 1953, when he began working as a mechanic and truck driver for Romans Motor Freight at Ord. In 1960, Leon was elected as the Valley County Sheriff, serving until 1962. He then returned to work as the General Manager at Romans Motor Freight, which then became Briggs Transportation. In 1976 Leon and John Sears started Service Oil Transportation. In 1980, Leon, John Sears and Leon's sons, Gary and Bill, started K-Truck Line. Leon retired as President of K-Truck Line in 1989. Leon was a member of the Ord Christian Church, a charter member of the Ord Elks Lodge Post 2371 and had served as the Exalted Ruler. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion and had been the past commander of both posts and had served as the District Commander of the VFW. He had coached and umpired American Legion Baseball for many years. For 18 years he served on the Ord Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Unit. Leon was a Valley County Supervisor for 24 years, serving as Chairman of the Board for several of those years. In 1999, he received an Honorary Diploma from Ord High School. Leon enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, baseball, football, gardening and shop work. His greatest joy was attending his children's and grandchildren's various activities. He is also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Leonard and Billy; and infant granddaughters, Dana and Jaime Krason.
