Emily is the daughter of Lucy Fitts Whittington and is likely the daughter of Andrew Whittington. Andrew Whittington married Lucy Fitts on 20 Feb 1823 in Guilford County NC. He filed divorce petitions in 1830 and 1833 charging his wife Lucy with adultery, and went to court in 1835, but the divorce was denied by the court due to lack of evidence. Lucy Whittington and Emily Whittington were listed in the same household in Guilford County NC in the 1850, 1860 and 1870 census records. Lucy Whittington was listed as a HOH in the 1840 census in Guilford County NC and had 2 additional females in the HH that were 10-14yo. 1900 census says Emily was born in Feb 1830, while NCDC says 5 Oct 1827. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Information and burial location per NC Death Certificate Cause of death: Uterine carcinoma Name: Emely Whittington [Emily] Event Type: Death Event Date: 22 Jun 1914 Event Place: Greensboro, Gilmer, Guilford, North Carolina Sex: Female Race: White Age (Original): 86y 8m 17d Birth Year (Estimated): 1828 Birth Date: 5 Oct 1827 Birthplace: Guilford County NC Marital Status: Single Burial Location/Cemetery: Lees Chapel Father's Name: Don't know Father's Birthplace: Don't know Mother's Name: Lucy Whittington (with "Don't Know" written under/over it) Mother's Birthplace: Don't know Source Reference: Whittington, Emely, 1914 Record Number: 34 Citing this Record "North Carolina Deaths, 1906-1930," database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:F36B-1XQ : 20 February 2021), Emely Whittington, 22 Jun 1914; citing Greensboro, Gilmer, Guilford, North Carolina, reference 34, State Department of Archives and History, Raleigh; FHL microfilm 1,877,779. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The June 24, 1914 edition of the Greensboro Daily News included: The funeral of Miss Emily Whittington was held yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock at Lees Chapel and was conducted by Rev.
