Bio

Merlin Miller Whitfield, 83, loving father, grandfather, brother and uncle, passed from this life Sunday, July 20, 2014. Funeral: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Mount Olivet Chapel. Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Olivet. Merlin was born April 7, 1931, in Itasca to Ernest and Pauline Whitfield. He graduated from Itasca High School and Hill County Junior College. He married the love of his life, Nina Doyle Sadler, and was a successful salesman for Georgia Pacific, retiring after 45 years. He was an avid woodworker and will be remembered for his great sense of humor, his selfless love for family and friends, and his faithful following of Jesus Christ. Merlin was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; brother, Ernest; and his two sons, Johnnye and Jimmy. Survivors: Daughter, Linda De La Cruz and husband, Jaime; sisters, Jeannine Allen and Rose Marie Brackin; eight grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
