Marie Bougger, 97, of Rising City, died Monday, July 7, 2014, at St. Joseph's Villa in David City Marie Bougger was born January 26, 1917, at a family farm north of David City to William and Marie (Vermeulen) Homan. She attended St. Mary's School through the 8th grade, and graduated from Marietta High School. Following graduation she entered Kearney State Teacher's College where she earned a Teaching Certificate. She taught at country schools near David City and Bellwood. She always took pride in her students' scholastic achievements. She married August Bougger on October 15, 1941, at Presentation Catholic Church near Bellwood. They moved to a farm east of David City. In spring, 1947, they moved to a farm west of Rising City and resided there until retirement. After 52 years of marriage her husband died on September 23, 1994. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and St. Ann's Altar Society of Shelby, and the FWS club of Rising City. She enjoyed her daily rosary, gardening, flowers, sewing, baking, quilting, and spending time with her 7 children, 24 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. She is survived by three daughters: Jane (Robert) Stachura of Columbus, Mary Ellen (Gary) Sokol of Longmont, Colorado, Eva (Robert) Cockson of Friend; 4 sons: Don (Mary) Bougger of Lincoln, Ken (Tracee) Bougger of Lincoln, Gary (Sue) Bougger of Columbus, and Tom (Janet) Bougger of Rising City. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant daughter Mary Jean, granddaughter Laura Cockson, two sisters: Alice Klein and Helen Hilger, and three brothers, Leonard, William and Wilfred Homan.
