Grand Island (Nebraska) Herald combined with the Grand Island Shopping News Thursday, 31 July 1930, page 1 John Sokol of Duncan Killed and Mrs. Fred Babel Seriously Injured Collision Occurred Near Lincoln One man was killed, and six persons were injured in a head-on collision twelve miles west of Lincoln Monday forenoon. One car involved in the crash was that belonging to Fred Babel of Grand Island and driven by him, and the other was driven by John Sokol of Duncan. John Sokol was so severely injured that he died a short time after reaching the hospital at Lincoln. His chest was crushed. . . Two sons of Mr. Sokol, who were riding with him, received minor injuries, one receiving two broken ...and the other lacerations about the arms and legs. All were taken to the St. Elizabeth's hospital in Lincoln where an operation was performed on Mrs. Babel. . . An inquest, at which Mr. Babel was unable to be in attendance held that the Babel car was traveling on the wrong side of the road as was claimed by a son of Mr. Sokol. Photographs were taken of the cars shortly after the accident took place.
