AUSTIN -- The funeral for Arthur E. Chapek will be at 2 p.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea, with the Rev. Donald Rose officiating. Burial will be in the Bohemian National Cemetery in Myrtle, Minn. Mr. Chapek, 69, of Albert Lea, formerly of Austin, died Tuesday (Sept. 14, 1999) at Rochester Methodist Hospital of complications from cancer. Born May 26, 1930, in Austin, he attended school in Freeborn County and worked on the family farm until entering the Marines. On Feb. 20, 1953, he married Lois Kruger in Hayward, Minn. He worked at Wilson's Farmstead and also was a taxidermist. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, a life member of the NRA, American Legion, Albert Lea Gun Club and other rifle clubs. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, bowling and trap shooting. Survivors include his wife; one son, Allan of Albert Lea; two grandchildren; his mother, Anne Chapek of Albert Lea; one brother, Alvin of Albert Lea; three sisters, Louise (Mrs. Richard) Peterson of Blooming Prairie, Genevieve (Mrs. William) Kruger of Alden, and Joyce Peterson of Albert Lea. He was preceded in death by his father and two sons. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home in Albert Lea and one hour before the service at the church.
