Albert “Pete” Smith was born April 27, 1934 in Harrison County, Texas to Tom Smith and Ethel Oney Smith. He loved and lived God’s word and instilled it in his children, creating a zeal within his children that still burns bright today. He went to be with the Lord on July 9, 2014. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. “Pete” was a kind, loving husband of 44 years, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved to fish and hunt and work on anything with a motor. He worked as a steelworker for Lone Star Steel until his retirement in 1995. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Emma Lou Little Smith; children, Roger and Rose Smith, Roger and Tammy Perkins, and Cindy and Johnny Wayne Sanders; 7 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild; 3 sisters and 1 brother, Ruthie and Ronnie Garrison, Marie Kellam, Billy Joe and Shirley Smith, Becky and Ronnie Wilson. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Buck Smith, 2 grandchildren Mark Perkins and Melissa Smith Brittain. Funeral services for Mr. Smith will be at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, July 12, 2014 in the chapel of Downs Funeral Home with Bro. Leonard Nichols, Bro Mike Brittain, and Bro. Cecil Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in Piney Cemetery in Harleton. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Friday, July 11th at the Downs Funeral Home.
