Bio

The Onaga Herald January 30, 1941 William Thomas Summervill, youngest son of James and Hannah Summervill was born March 7, 1865 at Brushe Prairie, LaGrange County, Indiana. When he was one year old, he with his parents came in a covered wagon to Nemaha County, Kansas, where he spent his boyhood days. As a young man he became interested in community interests. Among these interest the church was outstanding. He accepted Christ as his Saviour and united with the Christian church, remaining an active member until his death. Mr. Summervill was united in marriage with Maggie Westlake, Nov. 1, 1887. To this union six children were born, three sons; J. W., William and Wesley and three daughters; Edith, Allie and Edna. In the year 1904 Mr. Summervill with his family moved to a farm southeast of Marion. On this farm he spent the last 37 years of his life. For the past several years he has been in failing health. Following the contraction of a cold, he developed pneumonia, which was fatal. He died in the Hillsboro Hospital, December 25, 1940, having attained the age of 75 years, 9 months and 18 days. A loving husband and kind father has been taken from his dear ones. A good neighbor and kind friend has gone from us. Not alone in the home circle will Mr. Summervill be missed, but also in the neighborhood, where he was never too busy nor too tired to do kindly service. Much of this kindly attitude found expression through his activity in the Masonic and A. O. U. W. Lodges. He leaves to mourn his departure, his devoted wife, Maggie, his children: Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Summervill, of Humbolt; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Sampson, of Strong City; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Williams, Florence; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Wait, Marion; Mr. and Mrs. William Summervill, Russell; Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Summervill; Marion. There are 22 grandchildren and one great grandchild, Barbara Ray Sampson of Grand Junction, Colorado. There remains one sister-in-law, Hattie Summervill of Onaga, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. The funeral service was held in the Marion Christian Church in charge of Rev. E. M. Dahm, The Masonic Order had charge of the services at the grave in Highland Cemetery. Bio provided courtesy of FAG Contributor KU Fan.
