Bio

Carl John Nastoupil, Jr. passed away on June 20, 2014 peacefully in Sealy at the age of 93. Visitation with family will be on Monday, June 23, 2014 from 5-7 pm with the rosary being recited at 7 pm at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at the church on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at 10 am. Burial will directly follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Sealy. Carl was born on July 25, 1920 to Carl John Nastoupil, Sr. and Mary Callus in Sealy, Texas. He graduated from Sealy High School in the class of 1937. Carl joined the Army Air Corps (now known as the Air Force) in 1942 and later retired in 1967 as a Lt. Colonel. He fought in World War II as a pilot of B-17 Bomber planes and flew in 37 missions. Carl also flew in the Korean War and Vietnam. He received honors and medals such as a Purple Heart, the Distinguished Flying Cross, 4 air medals, the Air Force Commendation Ribbon, 5 battle stars on the EAME ribbon, and the Presidential Unit Citation. Carl also was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, a 3rd degree knight of the Knights of Columbus, The VFW of Sealy, and served as District Officer for the American Legion. Carl was always on the go and constantly seemed to stay busy even at the age of 93. He was an avid golfer, volunteered and participated in various local bingo halls in Austin County, and loved the outdoors. Although he was just about a month shy of his 94th birthday before his passing, he still continued to mow his own grass. He lived a good, long, happy and full life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Felcman Nastoupil, whom he married on October 28, 1950; and brothers, Willie Nastoupil and Raymond Nastoupil. Survivors include his sons, Carl J. Nastoupil III and wife, Linda, and David Nastoupil and wife, Cheryl; grandchildren, Erin Nastoupil-Hacker and husband, David, J.W. Nastoupil, Brooke Nastoupil and husband, Jesse Miller, Sarah Nastoupil and Brennan Nastoupil; step grandchildren, Irene Glover and husband, Casey, Drew Youngers and wife, Cindi; great grandchildren, Drew Slayton, Derek Slayton, Dacy Slayton, and Lanilynn Miller; step great grandchildren, Katherine Glover, Rachel Glover, Jane Youngers and Jack Youngers; and numerous nieces, nephews, family members and friends. Memorial donations may be made to the american legion and the knights of columbus . Knesek Funeral Home in Sealy in charge of arrangements.
