Bio

Leona Lillian Kieschnick Kokel was born on January 18, 1926, to Oscar H. Kieschnick and Lina E. Doering Kieschnick. She was welcomed into heaven with her crown of glory on December 7, 2020. She was baptized as a child of God and confirmed into the Christian faith at her lifelong church, Zion Lutheran in Walburg, Texas. She was the second of nine siblings who grew up knowing they were loved by family, friends, and their living Lord and Savior. Leona attended Zion Lutheran School where her father was the principal/teacher. She graduated from Jarrell High School as valedictorian. In November, 1944, she married the love of her life, Victor E. Kokel. The couple worked the Kokel homestead farm near Walburg. Victor was the owner of Central Barber Shop in Georgetown. Leona was employed with the Federal Government serving Selective Service, USDA and United States Army Corp of Engineers (Lake Georgetown). Victor and Leona were blessed with four children. Leona was active in her church with LWML, Zion Wurstbraten, recording its 100+ year history, organizing food for funerals, and so much more. In her community she was a 4-H leader, officer of the Walburg Community Center, and worked with the Williamson County Historical Society. In all activities, she worked diligently, thoroughly, and with a heart of a servant. She was preceded in death by her parents Oscar and Lina, husband Victor, brother Harold Kieschnick, brother-In-laws Herb Wottrich, Ardell Kalmbach, Arthur Kollmeyer, Ray Mickan, and sister-in-law Elaine Kieschnick. She is survived by children Glen and wife Joyce Kokel of Spring, Milton and wife Sylvia Kokel of Manor, Larry and wife Dorothy Kokel of Walburg, and Dale and husband Laddie Martinka of Bartlett. She is also survived by her grandchildren Kristen (Wes) Brannon, Zach (Jennifer) Kokel, Stefani (Josh) Hobratsch, Julie (Brian) Range, Samuel Kokel, Philip (Nikki) Kokel, Rachel (Rafael) Holanda, Kyle Kokel, Colt (Haley) Kokel, Aaron (Jennifer) Martinka, Adam (Amber) Martinka, Denise (Billy) Rhea, Natalie Martinka (fiancé Chase Morton), her eighteen great-grandchildren Kaitlyn, Joshua, Bethany, Riley, Ethan, Elijah, Alex, Natalie, Charlotte, Nolan, Bridget, Darren, Alli, Evan, Reese, Colton, Kason, and Mason along with her siblings: Erna Kollmeyer, Melvin (Jane) Kieschnick, Doris Wottrich, Miriam Kalmbach, Ethel Mickan, Rev. John Kieschnick, Darlene (Lee) Cunningham, and sister-in-law Henrietta Kieschnick and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services for family only to be held at Zion Lutheran Cemetery. For health and safety, no visitation is planned. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Zion Lutheran School’s Learning Legacy Endowment Fund, 6101 FM 1105, Georgetown, TX 78626 or to a charity of your choice.
