Mable Fay Petet Oct. 7, 1921 - June 22, 2014 Mable Fay Petet, 92 years, of Fremont, NE died Sunday, June 22, 2014 at Nye Legacy Health & Rehab Center in Fremont. Mable was born October 7, 1921 in Lakin, Kansas to John and Lucille (Towler) Lewis. She moved to Sargent, NE in 1937. Mable married Ralph L. Petet on June 8, 1941 in Smith Center, KS. The couple moved to San Francisco, CA in 1941. Mable worked for Bethlehem Steel during the war and was a participant in the Purple Heart Association Queen Contest, recruiting blood donors for service men. They returned to Nebraska in 1945 and bought a restaurant which they operated for 3 years. They moved to the Tekamah, NE area and lived there for several years until moving to Uehling, NE in 1965. Ralph died on July 1, 1980. Mable moved to Fremont in 2003. Mable attended Hastings College of Cosmetology and retained her beauticians license throughout her entire life. She was a civil service clerk for the Selective Service System from 1957 to 1962. She finished her working career as head bookkeeper at the Farmers Union Coop Association in Uehling, retiring May 31, 1984 after 20 years of service. Mable published a book of short stories describing the first 25 years of her life, which the family will enjoy reading for many years to come. Mable was a member of First Baptist Church in Fremont and was a past regent of the Lewis-Clark Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. She is survived by her son, Jerry and wife, JoAnn Petet of West Point, NE; daughters, Pamela K. Hancock of Fremont and Sharon D. Sohl Ballhagen and husband, LaVerne Ballhagen of Columbus, NE; brother, Donald Lewis of Ulysses, KS; her twin sister, Myrtle Ferris of Santa Barbara, CA; 9 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brothers, Doug and Dick Lewis. Funeral service, 11 AM, Wednesday, at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont, NE. The Rev. Gundar Lamberts of First Baptist Church in Fremont will officiate. Visitation on Tuesday from 5 PM to 8 PM with the family receiving friends from 6 PM to 8 PM at the funeral home. Burial at Mount Hope Cemetery in West Point, NE at 2 PM, Wednesday. Memorials may be directed to the Daughters of the American Revolution.
