Her obituary in the Free Press Standard, Carrollton, Ohio, Thursday, May 21, 1970. Mrs. Charles (Jennie DeFord) Mills, 86, former Carrollton resident, died Monday in La Jolla, California, where she had resided since 1965. Born October 29, 1883, she was married in 1907 to Charles Reed Mills, who died in 1958. Mrs. Mills had lived in Washington, D.C. from 1941 to 1946 and in Canton from 1946 to 1965 when she moved to La Jolla. She was a member of Christ United Presbyterian Church in Canton and was a past president of the Canton Woman's Club. Mrs. Mills was a member of the DAR and active in civic and church affairs in Washington. Surviving are one son, DeFord C. Mills of La Jolla; three nieces, Mrs. Wilbur Simmons of East Canton, Mrs. Helen Senior of Minerva and Mrs. Jessie Crowl of Mansfield, and one nephew, Hoadley Figley of East Rochester. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. this Thursday in the Sweeney Funeral Home here with Rev. George E. Parkinson of Canton officiating. She will be interred in the Carrollton Mausoleum.
